How I healed my acne

A while back I started suffering from major acne, it was like nothing I have ever experienced before. I've always had hormonal breakouts but got that under control once I sorted out my hormone imbalance. I couldn't put my finger on what was causing the acne this time. it was from my temple are down my cheeks and jawline all over my chin and even some on my forehead.

I researched for weeks trying to figure the shit out. Face mapping was something I looked back to regularly. I spoke with 3 different nutritionists but the most helpful person was Amy from Skyn therapy I can't thank her enough. She is a wealth of knowledge and had suffered from severe acne for the best part of her life and she offered me so much support and advice and her blog has been such a great help to me! So please do check her out especially if your acne has been an ongoing thing for years!

I wanted to share with you the changes I've made to my diet which has been the ONLY cure. I tried numerous different skincare brands and products and nothing made any difference if I'm really honest.

Firstly let's talk about supplements, one supplement I introduced was omega 3 by nothing fishy, I chose a vegan omega purely because the oceans are so polluted I didn't want to add something to my diet that would contain heavy metals etc. I really love this brand and their ethics, they're expensive but I believe in quality over quantity there is no point in pumping your body with synthetic vitamins because they'll have a negative effect later on in life! They also offer refills. I had no idea how important omega 3 was, its anti-inflammatory and this is why its great for acne flare-ups, reducing inflammation in the body is one of the best things you can do for clearer skin and hormone balance!

Another supplement I introduced was the beauty complex by terra nova which I wrote all about here. This has helped so much while helping clear my skin its also helped my hair grow faster and my nails too!

All 3 nutritionist recommend I started to eat meat again, I was reluctant to this for a very long time. I didn't like the idea of eating animals again for beauty purposes I felt like that was a real vein thing to do. But when my ferritin levels became dangerously low yet again I researched for weeks on what was the best decision for my diet. I wrote all about stopping my vegan journey here - it wasn't an easy choice but one that I am happy I've made. My health is thanking me for it and after a week of eating meat, my skin was 80% clearer!

I've also introduced oregon grape root which is good for detoxing and supporting gut health. It's also great to use topically for skin conditions such as acne, eczema and psoriasis.

I take an iron supplement alongside eating meat, which I have been taking throughout most of my vegan journey too! I use spatone and I swear its the only one that has actually helped bring my ferritin levels up with no side effects!

It was suggested that maybe my liver was struggling to detox properly and this was causing my breakouts so I've started taking milk thistle daily. I used to just take it for hangovers HA! But I now use a tincture every day I buy this one from amazon its definitely helped massively.

Other supplements I take which might help are MSM powder, this is known to be the queen of beauty supplements but it has tons of health and beauty benefits, its one of the things I used to help with my gut healing protocol and it's helped me become more flexible in yoga practice and dance. Plus I'ts super affordable read more about it here! Magnesium is something I've taken intermittently over the past few years for hormone imbalance but its also known to have a good impact on the skin! I found this article by Amy very useful.

I've been doing a lot of clay masks, for my entire body not just face these help detox I'm sure it cured my flu a few months back haha. I also started using a primer again my favorite one is by 100% pure. I think this has helped keep my skin hydrated and reduce further breakouts from makeup and outdoor dirt and pollution! I've also reduced my carbs (except this past week, my inner Carbie came out!) I drink kombucha or kefir every other day to help support my gut, a healthy gut is crucial for good skin as well as good health! I stay away from sugar. I only have small amounts of maple and coconut sugar. Of course, lots of water is an absolute must! I am still trying to introduce more ways to heal my skin but my next journey will be clearing up the scars and preventing further breakouts, I have just purchased a product that is supposed to do just that I'm really excited to try it and ill report back with a review soon!

Let me know if you have any tips, advice or scar healing products you can recommend! Please email/DM if you have any questions I'm always happy to answer you guys!
